Rooftop & Matron’s Gardens

Building safe and welcoming outdoor areas within a live hospital environment is no small task, but it’s one we were excited to take on for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The goal was to refresh their rooftop and matron’s gardens into spaces that staff, patients, and visitors could enjoy.

The project began with the excavation of existing grass, soil, paving, and handrails. Then, installed new sandstone paving, artificial grass, handrails, and benches.

Working within a live hospital setting came with challenges, including logistics, noise and dust suppression, and minimizing disruption. However, by collaborating closely with the client and maintaining constant communication, we delivered a project that exceeded expectations and was warmly received.
